KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 2023) – At age 23, Amy Threlkeld broke new ground in the plumbing/HVAC industry, becoming one of the youngest females to break the glass ceiling of home-services business leadership. Now, more than a decade later, Amy again is breaking ground, joining CopperPoint to help family-owned home-services businesses nationwide in their growth and expansion.
Known for her operations expertise, Amy helped orchestrate the meteoric growth of Bob Hamilton Plumbing, Heating, AC and Rooter. Under her leadership, the company grew from less than $5 million in annual revenue to more than $26 million in just seven years. She served as operations manager and general manager, leading eight different departments including sewer sales and multiple technician lines.
“I’m very good at conflict and at guiding people to solve their own problems, which helped me be a good operator,” Threlkeld said. “This is especially important in a family-owned company, where oftentimes the family dynamic is the hardest part of the job. As a manager, I’d focus on the weekly numbers and 90-day plans, using these to keep everyone – including my aunts and uncles – on track to achieving our goals.”
Threlkeld changed the home-services “father-son” business model with her “father-daughter” approach, said CopperPoint Co-Founder and CEO Bobby Hamilton. “Amy helped open up the industry to more women, especially in leadership roles. She made a name for herself because of her operations expertise and work-ethic, not because she is a woman.”
Threlkeld grew up in a plumbing family, she said. “I did filing to pay for Slurpee’s when I was a kid and paid my way through the University of Kansas working as a night-time dispatcher.
“Until joining CopperPoint, I didn’t realize how much I missed this industry.”
